In Tolosa, from September 2 to 5, 2012 the eighth PP&PSC (Power Plant and Power System Control) symposium took place, organized by IFAC (International Federation of Automatic Control). The symposium takes place every 3 years and it bases its own reputation on its excellent presentations and scientific discussions. The aim of the exposition is that of promoting technical discussions and business meetings among people coming from all over the world specialized in that field. As for this eighth edition, together with the common topics, special attention has been given to innovative contributions in the field of Smart Grids. S.T.E.
