Investing in Italy

Traditionally, Italy has been the main market for Sorgent.e's financial activities. Activities have been ongoing since the end of the nineties when the topic of renewable resources had not yet entered the domain of public opinion.

Despite structural difficulties relating to authorisation procedures for new projects, that greatly delay the development of new power plants, legislation relating to "Certificati Verdi" (Green Certificates) and the "Conto Energia" (Energy Incentives), if well governed, can be interesting for an association such as ours that aims to become a qualified investor in its country of origin.

Past and current investments concern hydroelectric, wind and photovoltaic plants. To date, Sorgent.e has company shareholdings in around twenty company projects (SPV), with another ten plants already in operation and hundreds of MW awaiting authorisation.

In recent years, the holding company has succeeded in raising interest concerning initiatives relating to state-of-the-art solutions. By drawing on the latest technologies, it has been possible to realise high quality world class power plants. An example of such innovation is the Paullo power plant, owned by Quattordici spa. This is the first example in the world of a low-head hydroelectric station with permanent magnet bulb turbines, and the future power plant at Montodine, owned by C.E.V. srl, that will include an installation of a particular turbine able to operate with marginal heads of less than a metre.

In addition the relationship established with several local entities for wind power and photovoltaic development is worthy of note, in particular that with several important Agricultural Irrigation Consortia for the multi-purpose development of water irrigation channels. Initiatives such as these are a testament to Sorgent.e’s position as a global leader.
